Visit Local Museums
There are plenty of fascinating museums near North Lake Tahoe that are suited to all types of interests and age groups.
- KidZone Museum: Located in Truckee, this kid-friendly spot combines education with fun and is a must for families traveling to town. They offer classes, including sing-a-longs, crafting lessons, and painting sessions. Check their calendar before you visit to get an idea of what you can enjoy. There are also permanent exhibits that allow your children to play and use their imaginations to the fullest extent. There are plenty of structures to climb and slides to slip down. Future scientists will love the Lab, which features live animals and a working microscope. There's even an infant area, where little ones can practice crawling and rolling in a safe spot.
- Tahoe Maritime Museums: Learn about the history of boating in North Lake Tahoe at this maritime-themed museum. It's open from Thursday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is just $5 for adults and free for kids ages 12 and under. They have a fascinating selection of permanent and rotating exhibitions. Don't forget to stop by the gift shop to pick up a souvenir. They offer informative books, wooden boats, clothes, and so much more!

- The Cobblestone Center: While this Bavarian-themed pavilion isn't an indoor mall, it's still a great place to find locally-owned restaurants and shops. Some of our favorite shops include Tahoe Trunk Show, which carries stunning wood maps. Uncorked is another excellent option if you're looking for an exquisite bottle of wine. We're also partial to Scraps Dog Bakery, which sells delicious goodies for your four-legged friends. (By the way, did you know that Tahoe Truckee Properties has the widest selection of dog-friendly rental homes in the area?)
- Boatworks Mall: You'll find everything in Lake Tahoe at this Tahoe City mall! Visit Tahoe Shoe & Clothing Company or Tahoe T-Shirtery to pick out a fun new outfit or souvenir, or head to Tahoe City Chocolates to grab a sweet treat!
